Morden Colliery Provincial Park

Vancouver Island's coal mining industry really began with the discovery of coal on Newcastle Island in 1852. The first sod was turned at the Morden Mine, on Vancouver Island, in 1912 and in its first year of operation, 76 000 tonnes of coal were removed. Little remains now but the old coal tipple.
